5. The Muppets make me cry.Awkward, but true. Now, I won't cry at any old Muppets bit: I shed no tears over Statler and Waldorf, nor do I weep for Beaker (though I sympathize with the poor son of a bitch). No, I have to be feeling old or beat up or otherwise emotionally vulnerable — see point number one, below. Drink might be involved. My daughter might be at hand, the better for me to reflect on how she's growing up and how little time we have left. Given circumstances like these, and given the right song or sketch, I'm leaving the room for a while.

Aw, nuthin' wrong with crying at the Muppets. In the right kind of mood, one can cry at almost anything. I wouldn't be one to admit how often Harry Nilsson songs make me cry. How you could tell I was having a really bad day -- back when I still had the turntable out -- was that I was sprawled across the bed, face down like a Miyazaki gal, listening to Harry and moping.
